Elisabeth Mullen: Article deplorable

— I found the April 6 article "E-mails Reveal Anger" deplorable on many levels.

To the Pilot & Today and the handful of zealous, Internet posters, I encourage you to exam your holier-than-thou attitude. I find it difficult to believe that all of you righteous people have never said or written anything in anger - whether an e-mail, writing in your personal journal, discussing a particular bad day, week, month or year in confidence with a friend or significant other.

I find it difficult to believe that you've never disliked a co-worker or public official so intensely that you have not made derogatory comments about their character. If all the venomous, anti-Bush e-mails wishing him harm became public, there would not be enough jail cells in the nation to house all the "criminals."

I challenge you (Pilot & Today, righteous Internet people, and particularly Donna Howell and Cyndy Simms) to bring forth all your personal e-mails and present them to the public for scrutiny. Pilot & Today, I not only challenge, but I am willing to wager any sum of money that equally strong, controversial e-mails and private conversations have emerged from Howell and Simms in reference to DeVincentis. What e-mail fairy is going to deliver those to your door?

Simms and DeVincentis did not agree on various issues. DeVincentis having disdain for a former superintendent was not a breaking news story warranting a full page-and-a-half with a full-page picture.

If any of the "outraged" parents and members of the "We Hate Dr. DeVincentis Club" would stop for a moment, they would realize how angry and hateful they sound. The various "anti-John" Internet postings have stooped to gross levels of name-calling, "psycho," "crazy" and "sick." The only difference between them and DeVincentis is they all post anonymously. DeVincentis was given no such choice.

DeVincentis has strong beliefs. His beliefs were and are in direct conflict with Simms and now, Howell. His beliefs propelled him to take action against these people that he felt were a problem and a detriment. The exact same inference can be applied to Howell. She continuously takes action against DeVincentis because they are in disagreement. Exactly who had access and motive to search years of e-mails? This means-to-an-end, unethical tactic is unacceptable.

If the Pilot & Today and Steamboat citizens are going to try to run-out-of-town anyone who is vocal with strong convictions and beliefs, then there will be very few people remaining in this community.

If the Pilot & Today is really going to do some enquiring-mind-reporting, please make sure you encourage anyone in authority to seize personal emails. I'm sure this community can then get behind articles discrediting those having affairs, looking at porn, and a multitude of other human foibles.

I am thoroughly disgusted with, shocked and dismayed by those individuals who were responsible for this travesty: those who turned over the emails, the author of the article, those who approved it for publication, those who have crucified DeVincentis in public and over the Internet, and those who seem to have found a comfortable seat next to God to pass judgment.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't think the majority of us are stupid enough to email such hateful words on their work computer and work email account. That right their, has to bring up a red flag about someones mental health.

The scary thing is on the outside John seems like such a very different person, but the things he said and admitted to saying are not healthy and a person like this should not be around our kids.

John, you put in your time, but know it's time to move on.

This is the second reference and comparison of John D as christ like. How offensive. It seems as tho his minions are mounting a campaign to fade the heat and place the blame elsewhere. Is ok because he will be recalled.

Well-written letter. Love the part that says "what e-mail fairy is going to deliver those to your door?" And good point about the anonymous posters. Same thing Dr. D. was doing but he didn't have the choice of being anonymous.

The only person who is trying to fade the heat here is Howell. By igniting a fire on Dr. D's reputation with emails from years ago, Howell has managed once again, to stay out of the spotlight. Meanwhile, while everyone is battling over Dr. D. ("he did!"... "he did not!"), who knows whose pockets she is sticking her fingers in or how many changes she is making in the school's financial records. Time to take a very close look at Ms. Howell if you ask me. She's the one making the big bucks that we are paying for out of our tax dollars.

Trouter, you are implying very serious charges with no backup what-so-ever. Put up or shut up.

Big bucks? What a superintendant makes is not a lot considering the size of the organization. A private sector manager with that many employees in the organization, that much physical plant to be responsible for and the same operational budget would make twice as much.

Elizabeth: You can rant and rave about everbody in the worlds conduct, but Dr D's attitudes and conduct started this fiasco. It will not end until he and Denise Connely are removed from office.

trouter: What is your bone to pick with the present superintendent? I agree she is paid too much just like all executives in andy line of work, but you obviously have nsome hidden agenda. My only stake in this mess is as a taxpayer. Whats your stake?

I used to like trout. Now, I think they are dumb. Let's do, let's examine her emails, phone calls, and memos. They would all be far less amusing than your accusations. So post away, you moron, something needs to make me smile now the MTN is closed. If you don't know anything, don't open your mouth. And if you do know something, come forward. After all, all we can do is try to lynch you while leaving the actual person responsible intact, right?

Again with people defending his right to vent his anger in words and ignoring his behavior. I agree, his name calling should be dismissed as the ravings of a man with his temper and judgement out of control, HOWEVER... IT'S THE ACTIONS BEHIND THOSE WORDS. Yes, I have made stupid remarks such as "I'd like to kill that s.o.b." but I've never killed anyone, I've also said I'd like to get even with someone but I didn't begin a personal vendetta to ruin them either. You wrote.. "His beliefs were and are in direct conflict with Simms and now, Howell. His beliefs propelled him to take action against these people that he felt were a problem and a detriment."...well, that is the problem and if you condone the "action" he took, that's deplorable. Why did his beliefs give him the right to become judge, jury, and executioner of either of these women? On that note.. It is my belief that whoever exposed these emails felt threatened by Dr. D's tactics and had no other choice than to sink to his level and, if he is not removed from the board someone else will soon feel the sting.

So JQ- will you go to any length to get Dr. D out of office?

0

Matthew Stoddard 7 years, 8 months ago

And JQ says- "It is my belief that whoever exposed these emails felt threatened by Dr. D's tactics and had no other choice than to sink to his level and, if he is not removed from the board someone else will soon feel the sting."

Since Dr. D set the precedent, it's okay for others to follow suit...but Dr. D must be the only one to be punished for it? Is that what I'm reading? Do I need to print the H word again?

And how the heck do you come up with that assertion since that person is anonymous and won't speak up? Ahhhhh, yes: trust in those anonymous before people you can verify. Good mantra.

JQPUBLIC 7 years, 8 months ago

Nope... my only motivation in this is stating my disgust and voicing my opinion on matters involving an elected official. I believe the decision to recall or retain Dr. D is best left to those with the most compelling motives, the parents of school age children and those hired to educate them; if they choose to recall then everyone else can back up their opinions by voting.

0

Matthew Stoddard 7 years, 8 months ago

And what if that doesn't work?

Plus, you didn't state what makes you "believe" the anonymous person's motives for delivering those emails. How can you "believe" their motivation when no motive and no person are there to express it? Where's my phony Brooklyn Bridge deed when I need it?

jerry carlton 7 years, 8 months ago

keilbasa- You can throw up all the smoke and mirrors you want. Dr. D started this mess and he will be recalled before it is finished.

0

Matthew Stoddard 7 years, 8 months ago

Then here's my prediction:

Recall D?- Pass Recall D & Connelly- Fail

Bet me? $100 I'm right. I tell you why after the recall.

0

reallocal 7 years, 8 months ago

That's why the people responsible set up different recalls. Even though Denise does deserve to be recalled, she deserves also a chance to prove her leadership if she can break away from DeVincentis' puppet strings...
