Matthew E. Hermes: Venom and anger

As an elected member of the Steamboat Springs Board of Education (1997-2000) I can only react with contempt at the pathological behavior of John DeVincentis in his efforts to discredit the person and reputation of Cyndy Simms.

Without exception, the deliberations of the Board of Education in the three years I was privileged to serve and in the four previous years when I was on the Fund Board, recognized the educational objectives of the district as primary.

Superintendent Simms was unfailing in her efforts to serve those objectives and to act with fairness, honesty and openness to her employees, including DeVincentis.

My service in those three years was one highlight of a long life and for much of that I credit Simms.

I would hope the Board of Education and the community will move quickly to remove this cancerous core that continues to infect the educational process in Steamboat. No community can regard as leader someone whose venom reflects such deeply ingrained personal sickness
