Steamboat Springs — Gifted and Talented Program identifying students

Steamboat Springs School District is in the process of identifying students in need of services through the district's newly developing Gifted and Talented Program for grades 3 to 12. All students in grades 3, 6 and 9 are being assessed as an initial step in identifying needs. Classroom teachers also may use information from the assessment in their efforts to meet individual needs.

The school district is requesting referrals from parents and/or teachers of students in grades 3 to 12 who think they have a student in need of support through this program. Students in grades other than 3, 6 and 9 will be assessed upon receipt of a parent or teacher referral.

The main referral window will be Sept. 27 through Oct. 13. If you would like to refer a student for assessment of need, please ask for a referral package from your school office. Please return all referrals to your school office by Oct. 13.

Upon the completion of referrals and initial assessments, district staff will review the information along with a larger collection of student work. This collection will include CSAP and district assessments, when available, as well as other examples of student work.

C-DOT hosts public forum tonight

Regional transportation planners are hosting a public forum today, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in Olympian Hall at the Howelsen Lodge, 845 Howelsen Parkway.

The public is invited to comment about local road improvement needs and the state department of transportation's 2035 Plan, which outlines future goals and projects. Topics of discussion will include the impact of development, costs, and priorities for projects.

"We're just starting the process now to go through and update the 2035 Plan," said Ed Fink, regional transportation director for C-DOT. "This forum is part of our public involvement process."

The Northwest Transportation Planning Region encompasses 14 counties. Refreshments will be served at tonight's forum. Call Phil Anderson at 303-299-7831 for more information.
