Topping today's news, the Steamboat Springs School Board meets at 6 p.m. today in a new venue, Centennial Hall. The board previously met at the Human Services Center on Seventh Street. The board is scheduled to elect a new president tonight to replace Tom Miller-Freutel. Miller-Freutel resigned from the board last month after serving less than a year. His District 5 replacement has not yet been named.
Routt County Search and Rescue is holding its annual fundraiser Tuesday. The event is from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Bear River Bar and Grill. The fundraiser is a major funding mechanism for the nonprofit group, which goes on about 65 missions per year. Tickets for the event are $10.
The Hinman Fire in North Routt County destroyed thousands of acres of trees in the Routt-Medicine Bow National Forest in 2002. But thanks to the efforts of the US Forest Service and groups like the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, the burned area is recovering nicely. In sports, J.J. Huie won the Steamboat Pilot & Today Run for Literacy, the final event in the Steamboat Springs Running Series. Huie won the 7.2-mile run with a time of 49 minutes and 49 seconds.
