Topping the news this morning, a report has released details of the ski area's financials. The Steamboat Ski Area generated sufficient revenues last year to cash flow $27.5 million, according to a story that ran in the Denver Post Thursday morning. Based on that number, a source for the story projects a purchase price between $220 million and $275 million, an approximate range previously reported by Steamboat Today. Routt County voters have no reason to worry about the security of their votes when they go to the polls Nov. 7, county officials say. Although state officials spent Wednesday and Thursday in Denver District Court defending the security of four brands of electronic voting machines used in the state, Clerk and Recorder Kay Weinland said she has the utmost confidence in the voting system that worked without a hitch in the Aug. 8 primary. For more information about electronic voting and continued election coverage, go to steamboatpilot.com.
Today's lift ticket winner is Jason Krueger of Clark. He will also receive a $50 gift certificate to ski area businesses. Remember, you can enter the contest by clicking on the Hey Powderhounds ad on the left rail of steamboatpilot.com. There are just eight lift tickets left, so don't forget to enter today. At the end of the month, we're going to give away a season pass and a couple of airline tickets. Thanks to Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. for helping with this promotion.
In sports, the Soroco volleyball team dropped three games to North Park Thursday. The Wildcats took a 25-19, 25-4, 25-13 win over the Rams. The Soroco football team takes on West Grand tonight, and Hayden will be playing Paonia. Look for those stories in Saturday's Steamboat Today.
In Sunday's Pilot & Today, Melinda Mawdsley will have an update about recovery efforts in the Routt National Forest after the Hinman Fire in 2002. Tyler Arroyo has photos of the area, and we'll have a slideshow of those on steamboatpilot.com. In Style, we'll have a tour of fall foliage around Steamboat.
