Steamboat Springs The snow is already starting, and Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. still has more than 100 seasonal jobs to fill before the ski season.
On Friday, Ski Corp. will hold its annual job fair aimed toward locals from noon to 6 p.m. at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel in the Priest Creek Ballroom.
"How many jobs are out there in the world where you can go skiing on your lunch break and you can meet great people?" asked Ski Corp. public relations manager Heidi Thomsen.
Managers will be at Friday's job fair with information about available positions, and applicants will be given interviews on the spot.
"You can get an on-the-spot interview with the food and beverage manager if you want to be a bartender at Hazie's," Thomsen said. "The benefit is that managers from all the various departments will be there."
Every year, Ski Corp. hires about 600 seasonal workers for the ski season. Ski Corp. employs about 1,800 people during the winter.
"Dress like you're going to an interview," Thomsen said.
A resume, samples of any relevant past work and a good reference letter will help, she said.
More than anything, Thomsen said they are looking for people who are "enthusiastic and want to work for one of the best resort teams in the country."
There are openings in most areas, including instructors, lift operators, hotel positions, and food and beverage. Pay varies, but most of the entry-level positions pay between $8 and $10 an hour.
Recruiting and hiring has gone well this year, Thomsen said, and much of that can be attributed to a large response from people applying for jobs through www.steamboat.com.
"In the past three or four years, we've really seen a surge of people applying online," she said. "The Internet has really changed that aspect for us."
Ski Corp. will participate in the H2B visa program, which allows foreign workers to come to the United States and work for a set period of time in specific jobs. Thomsen said the company expects to hire about 250 people through the program.
There are full- and part-time positions available, and every winter employee is given a season ski pass. The employee pass is also good at 14 other Colorado resorts. Benefits also include discounts at restaurants, retail and rental shops. S
ki Corp. also is advertising for year-round positions, including a director of marketing and an accounts receivable clerk.
