Steamboat Springs resident Irma D. Douce died Sept. 6, 2006, at the Doak Walker Care Center. She was 87.

Irma was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., to Ernest Edward and Anna (Hofmann) Guedel. She was raised in the Chicago area.

Irma married Norman Raymond Douce on Sept. 6, 1941, in Chicago. They lived their married life in Elmhurst, Ill., where they raised their two children. The family was longtime members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elmhurst.

Irma was an administrative assistant to the executive of sales for Miller Fluid Power Corp. in Bensenville, Ill., and retired in May 1980. She greeted people from all over the world in this position and had excellent organizational skills. Her retirement years were spent enjoying her family in Illinois and traveling to Colorado for extended periods of time.

Irma mostly loved being outdoors. She loved to walk and spent many hours examining nature in her local area at the arboretum and parks near her home. She loved to swim and had many memories of time spent in Wisconsin and Michigan and by her beloved Lake Michigan.

In her adult life, she spent many hours ballroom dancing and talked about it often. She was an excellent seamstress, voracious reader and loved to play cards. She loved her family and friends, smiled at every child and reached out to many people in her life. She was a good friend to many people. Irma had a shy smile and a quick sense of humor.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harold, Orville and Ernest Guedel; and her husband, Norman Douce.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne and her husband, David Hood, of Steamboat Springs; her son, Gregory, and his wife, Korrine, of Holmen, Wis.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sept. 13, 2006, and interment followed in the memorial garden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Steamboat Springs.
