The Steamboat Springs golf team won its second tournament of the year on Tuesday playing at Lakota Ridge.

The team shot a 241, and Eagle Valley came in second with a 252.

Coach Scott Berry said the newly designed course in New Castle, a town between Rifle and Glenwood Springs, played tough, but the Sailors played extremely well.

"We just said, 'Lets go over there and just have a fun day,' and we ended up winning," Berry said.

Jake Dombrowski was the low medallist with a 78. Tim Asher shot 80, Tucker Campbell shot 83, and Kenyon Brenner shot 89.

For the four seniors, it marked the last tournament they'll play in together in high school.

"Everyone was having fun together because we knew it was our last hoorah together," Berry said.

Soroco Rams lose to Vail Christian

After Soroco's Thursday night loss to Vail Christian, Rams volleyball coach Betsy Photos said the numbers of each team's points added up to one close match.

Despite losing in four games, 25-11, 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, Photos pointed out how Vail ended up scoring only 12 more total points than the Rams.

"We're young and developing, and it's going to be an uphill climb, but we have the skills," Photos said. "We need to work on our discipline and focus."

After coming out slow in the first game, Photos said the Rams turned it on in their second game, jumping ahead and trading points "neck and neck" with Vail, but they were unable to secure the win.

In Game 3, Soroco minimized its errors for a solid win, but relapsed into a late set of errors that cost them the final, deciding game.

Photos noted the play of Kelsey Samuelson, who stepped in at setter in the fourth game to relieve Glenda Long in addition to Toni Lombardi at inside hitter and Emily Strait, returning from a severe ankle sprain and helping with some key blocks.

The Rams host Meeker in their first league match, 4 p.m. this afternoon.

Hayden football, volleyball games rescheduled

Hayden football and volleyball home games scheduled for tonight against West Grand have been moved to Saturday because of the Grand County Fair.

Saturday's games will be in Hayden and take place at 4,5 and 6 p.m. for volleyball and 7:30 p.m. for football.
