Yampa Valley Regional Airport wants to be part of Frontier Airlines' expansion plans. Frontier announced last week that it is looking to add 18 routes in the Rocky Mountain region, all within 650 miles of Denver. Andy Wirth, the vice president of marketing for Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., said Sunday that talks are ongoing between airport officials and Frontier to add Steamboat to Frontier's lineup. Yampa Valley Electric Association has had a record number of outages and more could be on the way. Weekend storms produced a number of outages in the area Saturday and Sunday. As crews work to repair the damage from the storm there could be a few more brief outages, said Jim Chappell, a spokesman for YVEA. The outages should be for a few minutes at the most.
Work is proceeding on the new Routt County Justice Center west of town. Contractors say they are on schedule to complete the building by September 2007. Workers are having to pump water from beneath the facility into an area next to the jail that will serve as a new wetlands. So far, officials estimate 8.5 million gallons of water have been pumped from beneath the facility.

In sports, Butch Boucher is the city's men's golf champion for the third time. The Combined City Championship was played Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the city's three championship golf courses. Boucher shot 74 at Catamount Ranch and Club Friday, a 73 at the Sheraton Steamboat Golf Course Saturday and a 74 at Haymaker Sunday to win the title. D.J. Edwards won the women's title. Edwards shot a 76 at Catamount, the best round of the women's tournament, and an 83 Sunday at Haymaker.
