Hayden resident Dorothea A. Grouns Hinton died Aug. 22, 2006, at the Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Craig. She was 93.
Dorothea was born April 13, 1933, in Whitman, Neb., to Theodore and Rosella (Baccus) Grouns. She was raised in the Whitman area.
Dorothea married John C. Hinton on Aug. 8, 1933, in Whitman. They lived in Cherry County, Neb., until 1942, when they moved to Denver. They moved to Arkansas in 1962. Dorothea moved back to Denver in 1971 following the death of her husband. She has resided in Hayden with her daughter since 2000.
Dorothea had various jobs in her life, including being a clerk in a drug store, refinishing musical instruments, working in a sheet metal business, cleaning houses and helping her son in the hayfields, but her main occupation was as a cook in restaurants.
She and her husband owned a cafe in Hideway Park for many years.
She enjoyed painting saw blades, doing beadwork and anything that involved using her hands. She always managed to keep busy. Dorothea always had a dog and was very fond of them.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ethel, Rosella and Blossom; her brother, Wayne "Buss," William and Clarence; her husband, Carl; her daughter, Jeaneen; and a granddaughter, Tabbie Lynn Wheelock.
She is survived by her daughter, Thalla, and her husband, Sid Wheelock, of Hayden; son, Jeff, and his wife, Gloria Hinton, of Maude, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was interred at Crown Hill Cemetery in Lakewood next to her husband, John Carl.
