'Arsenic and Old Lace' auditions this month

Auditions for Arsenic and Old Lace, a production by Steamboat Players and Steamboat Mountain Theater, will be held later this month.

The auditions are from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 and from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 16.

Nine to 11 men and three to five women are needed. Two women need to play elderly characters. Audition directly from the script, no singing is required.

Chuckwagon Chili Challenge entries sought

Main Street Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Pilot & Today are holding the first Chuckwagon Chili Challenge as part of a Downtown Hoedown to be held Sept. 23.

Entrants will be expected to produce a three-gallon batch of chili, bring it warm and keep it warm during the Chili Challenge and create a display booth.

Tasters will vote for the Peoples Choice Award.

Annual Soup Bowl

Supper set for October

The annual Soup Bowl Supper is Oct. 4 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Attendees will receive a locally made ceramic soup bowl that they can fill with soup donated by local restaurants.

Bread, beverage and dessert also are included.

Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. A silent auction of ceramic creations by local clay artists also takes place at each of the two supper seatings.

Historic Routt County is the beneficiary of this year's fundraiser. Previous Soup Bowl Supper beneficiaries have included the Animal Assistance League of Northwest Colorado, Yampa Valley Recycles and LIFT-UP of Routt County. The fundraiser has generated a total of $24,893 in its four years.

Annual Kitchen Tour

set for Saturday

Strings in the Mountains third annual Kitchen Tour is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9. Tickets are $20. Visit six of Steamboat's best private kitchens, sample foods and learn secrets from design experts.

Tickets are available online, at the Strings in the Mountains box office, Off The Beaten Path Bookstore, The Homesteader and All That Jazz.
