Our View: Getting the ballot right
The Steamboat Springs School Board made the right decision Monday to put a $29.7 million bond issue on the Nov. 7 ballot. At the same time, the Steamboat Springs City Council also was right to postpone a bond issue for a new recreation center.

As Principal Mike Knezevich looked at results from a recent survey profiling the needs, habits and goals of students at Steamboat Springs High School, one statistic particularly bothered him. "Only 13 percent of students perceive that adults in the community value youth," Knezevich said. "By having these classes and bringing community members in, we will start building that back up."

Kathy McKinley apologized. Several of her photos from Vietnam were graphic. "Sometimes, people need to see how deformed these children are to see why we are going in to help," she said. "Vietnam has the highest birth defect rate in the world."
