There's a lot going on this Labor Day weekend in the Yampa Valley -- bull riding, the Wild West Air Fest, music concerts, running races, the downtown sidewalk sale and several football games. Despite all there is to do, the Chamber's lodging barometer predicts tourism will be down about 1,000 people compared to Labor Day weekend 2005.

The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. is working hard to upgrade its snowmaking as part of $7 million in capital improvements this year. Crews are working on replacing snowmaking pipe and expanding snowmaking in the area of High Noon and Rendezvous Saddle on the ski mountain. Learn more about this project on steamboatpilot.com
One lucky shopper will win a $1,000 shopping spree at downtown businesses during this weekend's sidewalk sale. More than 40 businesses are participating in the sidewalk sale, which is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The shopping spree winner will be announced Monday.
The Yampa Valley Housing Authority celebrated the opening of Fox Creek Village on Thursday. The $6 million affordable housing project includes 30 deed-restricted units. Most of the units have two bedrooms and two bathrooms and cost the families less than $200,000 -- well below market value.
