Friday, September 1, 2006
Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Pilot & Today will give away the first of 30 lift tickets to the Steamboat Ski Area today in a joint promotion between the newspaper and the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.
The winner will be announced during the video news update today on steamboatpilot.com. The video news update is posted online by 9 a.m. each morning.
Readers can enter the contest at steamboatpilot.com. Individuals are allowed one entry per day.
In addition to the daily lift tickets, one season pass will be given away at the end of the promotion, as will two airline tickets. As an added bonus, the Friday winners of the lift tickets also will receive a $50 gift certificate good at Steamboat Ski Area businesses.
"The dream of white is floating through our offices," said Heidi Thomsen, spokeswoman for Ski Corp. "So, with this promotion, we want to build local excitement for this season's $7 million in improvements - including the solar-powered Sunshine Express, the fully renovated food courts and the Zaugg Superpipe Cutter - by offering everybody the chance to win ski passes.
"What better to way celebrate Ski Town USA?"
The lift ticket giveaway is a chance for the newspaper to promote its re-designed Web site. Contest entries are only available at steamboatpilot.com
Winners are drawn at random and announced by newspaper reporter Alexis DeLaCruz during her video news update each weekday morning on the Web site. The Saturday and Sunday winners will be announced on Mondays.
At the end of the promotion, the 30 lift ticket winners will be entered in a drawing for a season pass. All entrants will be eligible to win the free airline tickets.
Entrants may only win once. Employees and family members of the Steamboat Pilot & Today and Ski Corp. are not eligible.
"This is a great partnership between Ski Corp. and the newspaper," said Pilot & Today publisher Bryna Larsen. "We're very excited about what we're doing on our Web site, and the lift ticket drawings are a tremendous way to drive users to the site so they can experience all of our new features. And for Ski Corp., the promotion is a great opportunity to build momentum for what should be a great season."

There is something evil and malevolent underlying this desparate popluar scramble for a free ticket.
Reminds me of the original Willy Wonka movie--Charlie and the Chocolate Factory....or even worse, the new twisted out Johnny Depp version.
Ahhhh Johnny Depp. What a handsome pirate....I digress....
hope that the ultimate free ticket goes to some hapless selfless waif of a lad just like in the movie. And all of the selfish grabbing blueberries (like me) can just drown in a steaming vat of dark chocolate while the oopah loompahs tsk tsk.
That would be the fairy tale ending this town needs right now.
