Atmos Energy files for gas cost adjustment
Atmos Energy has filed with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission for a gas cost adjustment to reflect a decrease in cost of natural gas it is buying for its Colorado customers. If approved by the commission, this decrease will take effect Nov. 1.
The gas cost adjustment, if approved by the COPUC, would decrease the current residential gas commodity rate 33 percent from $1.26 cents per hundred cubic feet to $0.85 cents per ccf. The commercial gas commodity rate would decrease 33 percent from $1.24 cents per hundred cubic feet to $0.83 cents per ccf.
Atmos Energy officials said this decrease comes about because the wholesale price of natural gas has decreased significantly during the last several months.
Atmos Energy buys natural gas on behalf of its customers and passes on the cost of the natural gas to them without marking up the price.
