Accidents abound on Rabbit Ears Pass
Friday's snowstorm left dozens of motorists stranded on Rabbit Ears Pass, but few car accidents were reported elsewhere in Routt County, police officers said.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Brett Hilling said there were "tons of slide-offs" on Rabbit Ears Pass. Many of those accidents were handled by Routt County Sheriff's Office deputies. None of the one-vehicle accidents resulted in injuries, Hilling said.
Colorado Department of Transportation officials chose not to close Rabbit Ears Pass on Friday despite the blowing wind and snow, he said.
Elsewhere in the county, a few minor accidents were reported by 5 p.m., including a coal truck that rolled over on Routt County Road 27 and a vehicle that was involved in a crash on Colorado Highway 131 near mile marker 54. One person involved in the accident on Colo. 131 complained about minor injuries, Hilling said. A second accident was reported on C.R. 27. No one was injured.
