Help women bust through breast cancer

The Bust of Steamboat is a fun and whimsical fundraiser for a serious subject - breast cancer. Decorated bras for the fifth annual Bust of Steamboat will be on display in area banks during October. They will be auctioned off at a reception and live auction from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at Three Peaks Grill.

In addition to 27 bras, there will be a 2007 season ski pass for auction, live jazz music, hors d' oeuvres and wine. Take $1 bills to place votes for "Bust of Show," which is awarded to the designer whose bra receives the most votes by the end of the evening.

The money raised stays in Routt and Moffat counties to help uninsured and underinsured women pay for mammograms, annual wellness exams and assist in breast cancer treatment costs. Advance tickets are $25 at All That Jazz, Off The Beaten Path Bookstore and Curves for Women. Tickets are $30 at the door. Call Deb Curd at 871-7907.

Students need help with care packages for troops

Steamboat Springs Middle and High School students are putting together care packages to send to U.S. military troops stationed overseas. Dubbed "Operation Sending Smiles," the students are seeking donations of money, prepackaged snacks, hot chocolate, coffee, beef jerky, trail mix, nuts, socks, long-sleeve shirts, blankets, movies (DVDs), music (CDs), magazines and prepaid calling cards (so troops can call home).

All donations can be dropped off at Johnny B. Good's in downtown Steamboat Springs.
