Steamboat Springs A Steamboat Springs man was arrested early Monday morning just five days after he made bail and was released from jail.
Police said nearly two ounces of suspected cocaine was found on Luther Carlton Culberson, 36. Police suspect Culberson intended to distribute the cocaine.
Culberson was seen rummaging through a car that did not belong to him in front of a bar in the 1900 block of Mount Werner Road, said Steamboat Springs Police Capt. Joel Rae. Police contacted Culberson, after he was seen leaning over the car and reaching under the steering column. He was also reaching behind the passenger seat.
When police asked Culberson what he was doing, Rae said the man told police he was "getting candy" out of a friend's car.
Police detected a strong odor of alcohol on the man's breath, which Rae said was a violation of Culberson being out of jail on bond.
Police arrested Culberson for violating the condition of bond and searched him. Rae said officers found a bag containing 21 grams of suspected cocaine and another with 27 grams. They also found a bag containing 16 grams of marijuana and a Klonopin pill, a Schedule 4 controlled substance.
He was booked into jail at 2:45 a.m. Monday on charges of possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance (cocaine) with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule 4 controlled substance and violating the conditions of his bail bond.
Culberson bonded out of jail Oct. 11. He was arrested Oct. 9 in the 1300 block of Dream Island Plaza on suspicion of being a fugitive of justice, failing to signal and stop at a stop light, eluding police and resisting arrest.
