Steamboat Springs A 19-year-old Toponas man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft after Routt County Sheriff's Office deputies found a stolen car at a home on Colorado Highway 131.
Sheriff John Warner said the BMW reportedly was stolen from Oak Creek on Sept. 30. The car was found Wednesday in the 34000 block of Colo. 131 after an anonymous person drove by the car, recognized it as being stolen and called authorities, he said.
Michael Braunsen Mitchell was arrested on suspicion of felony aggravated motor vehicle theft, possessing drug paraphernalia and being a fugitive of justice.
A 17-year-old boy who lives at the residence initially was arrested on suspicion of stealing the car, but he was released to his parents after the teen told deputies Mitchell stole the car and let him drive it home, Warner said.
The teen is facing charges of possessing stolen property, Warner said.
Mitchell may face additional charges in relation to the case once deputies and Oak Creek police finish their investigation.
