She will be showing a media presentation of some of her work tonight at the Dressed To Kill Party at Three Peaks Grill.

It was like a scene from the movie "Pretty Woman." Chrissie Felt, owner of Token Threads, went shopping in Denver to find a fancy dress for the Dressed to Kill party she is co-hosting tonight.

Felt spent an hour and a half in one store as the employees oohed and awed at her. She tried on an endless line of dresses the owner picked out for her, and she eventually found the perfect outfit.

"Now I'm just nervous about wearing the 4-inch heels," Felt said.

Felt, Jackie Owen and Steve Boynton are hosting the party to promote their businesses and to celebrate mud season.

Boynton will deejay, a talent he recently added to his musical repertoire. Felt has organized three mini fashion shows featuring local women wearing clothing from her store, and Owen will give a media presentation from her photography portfolio.

Owen specializes in wedding and portrait photography. She said she approaches her jobs with an all-inclusive hair and makeup team that is analogous to a "swarm of bees." The hardest part of the party is choosing which photos to exhibit.

"I have 52,000 photographs in my computer right now. I know that because I just had to buy an external hard drive," she said. "Hopefully I won't bore anyone with all of them, but I will pick out a select few."

Owen began her career as the owner of a block-long salon where she worked as a professional makeup artist and stylist in New York City.

"I decided to become a photographer because I needed a profession that was more mobile - and you can be an 85-year-old photographer," she said. "But I didn't want to be an 85-year-old hair stylist."

But more to the point of the party is the opportunity for our stylishly laid-back town to step it up a notch - especially for the ladies.

"Being a girl, every now and then you want to go out and wear something different and feel good about yourself," said Caryn Ahern, who works with Owen. "So bring on your sparkle."

Felt's fashion shows will highlight her line of clothing because she said she often is consulted for fashion advice.

"People come in to my store saying, 'All I need is one cute top,' because they have a date or free concert or event to go to," she said. "So they come to Token Threads to buy a new top for under $30. That's why I do so well on Fridays."

She is worried people might misinterpret the theme of "dressed to kill."

"I don't want anyone to show up with fake blood all over them," Felt said. "You never get the opportunity in Steamboat to dress up, so show off and be classy, sassy and flashy."
