School board to hold special meeting

The Steamboat Springs School Board will hold a special meeting and study session Monday. Among the items to be discussed include the 2006-07 budget, district goals for student achievement and status of the English Language Learners and Gifted and Talented programs. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with an executive, or secret, session. The public portion of the meeting is scheduled to being at 7 p.m. in the George P. Sauer Human Services Center on Seventh Street.

Heeling Friends holds fall recruitment for members

Fall recruitment for new members of Heeling Friends is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23, 25 and 26 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Heeling Friends is looking for dog and cat owners and their pets who want to be part of the pet visitation program at Yampa Valley Medical Center. Participating animals must be leash and obedience trained; and friendly, quiet and non-aggressive. Handlers must have easy-going communication skills and be willing to commit to two years of two hospital visits a month. Call Lynette at 870-0021 to pre-register for the recruitment meetings.

Resort association seeks event information

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is seeking event information to include in its winter calendar of events. The calendar will include events that happen between November 2006 and April 2007. The information will be posted on the Chamber's Web sites as well as in community maps, press releases and other publications. Call 879-0882, ext. 203, or e-mail for a form. Detailed descriptions and ongoing events are encouraged.

Registration under way for youth orchestra

Registration is under way for the Steamboat Springs Chamber Orchestra's Youth Ensemble Program. The nine-week session includes programs for violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba and piano players. The program begins the week of Sept.18. Call 879-9008, ext. 107.
