Topping the news this morning, another downtown Steamboat Springs business was burglarized Tuesday. Police said someone apparently crawled through an open window to Blue Sky West and slashed one of the company's rafts before "trashing the place" and leaving. It does not appear that the person or people who committed the crime took anything from the store. The raft was worth about $4,000, police said. The incident is still under investigation.

Mayor Kathy "Cargo" Rodeman is again under fire in Oak Creek. Town employees have alleged that Rodeman circumvents staff decisions and does not follow town procedures for complaints against town employees. The allegations prompted a special Town Board meeting last week. Rodeman said no allegations have been provided to her in writing by any town employee or Town Board member. She said she was first made aware of the problems during the special meeting on Sept. 25. Rodeman said she found out about the meeting by reading the notice that was posted at Town Hall. Relief is in sight for the Hayden Police Department, which has been overwhelmed by the task of providing additional security at Yampa Valley Regional Airport. On Thursday, Hayden and Routt County officials discussed ways of easing the financial burden on the town. U.S. airports have been at security level orange since Aug. 10, the day after British authorities foiled a terrorist plot involving planes headed for the U.S. That heightened security level has required that an armed law enforcement officer with the authority to arrest people be present when passengers are being screened at YVRA.

In sports, Pueblo West golfer Zach Zaremba started the day six strokes behind the leaders at the class 4A state high school golf championship. He ended the day with a new course record and his first state title. Zaremba's 65 on Tuesday is the best round anyone has recorded from the championship tees at the 7,308-yard, par-72 Haymaker Golf Course. Senior Paul Berry was the top finisher for the Sailors. He shot a 71 on the final day and finished ninth overall with a combined score of 146.
