— La Quinta hotel owners Bobby and Awani Amin are coming off the busiest summer in the hotel's history, and they plan to be twice as busy this winter with their newest hotel.

The Steamboat Springs couple has bought the 66-room Fairfield Inn and Suites Hotel, along U.S. Highway 40, and improvements and changes are in store.

"We want to be more competitive with the other hotels," Bobby Amin said. "In the past, this hotel was not competitive. The quality was a little different."

Improvements include adding shuttle service to and from Steamboat Ski Area. The owners also plan to add hot continental breakfast and make improvements to the pool area and rooms. News beds and carpet have been added.

Bobby Amin's family has been in the hotel business since 1979. With help from his family, Bobby Amin built his first 29-room Steamboat hotel in 1998. He and Awani started out small and did most of the work at the hotel themselves. It operated as a Days Inn franchise until October 2005 when they converted it to a La Quinta.

"We felt La Quinta had a better brand name," Bobby Amin said.

In addition to the Steamboat hotels, the Amin's also own a Hampton Inn and Suites and a Holiday Inn Express in Denver. They also have a Days Inn in Fort Morgan and a Luxury Inn and Suites in Silverthorne, but the Amins decided to live in Steamboat.

"We decided to raise a family here because Steamboat is such a great town," Bobby Amin said. "We wanted to settle in Steamboat."

They also wanted to expand their business and were looking for something more upscale.

"We wanted to grow," Bobby Amin said. "Steamboat has so much potential."

He considered building a new hotel, but there was one major problem that led him to purchasing the Fairfield Inn.

"There was no land available for a new one," he said.

The Amins have hired Keith Latham to be the Fairfield Inn's general manager.

"We're starting up and just wanted to let everyone know," he said.

The Amins are expecting a busy season at both their Steamboat hotels.

"A lot of it depends on the snow, but our bookings are good for December," Bobby Amin said.
