Take responsibility
There was a glaring ommission in your recent editorial on traffic safety at railroad crossings: driver error. More than 300 motorists die each year in this country as a result of collissions with trains, yet most drivers don't give a thought to the possibility that a train may be coming down the tracks as they cross. Trains travel one path, they are very large and very loud, and they take at least a quarter-mile to stop.
Although there are crossings that are deficient in grade or sight distance, the majority are well designed. Drivers need to take responsibility, turn the music down and get off the phone, look, listen and assume a train is coming at every crossing. It takes a few more seconds, but it might save your life.
Oak Creek meetings
I wonder why the Steamboat Pilot & Today doesn't publish all the meetings that are being held at Oak Creek Town Hall with the Town Board and mayor?
Salazar for Congress
I'm calling to cast my vote for our Congressman, John Salazar. He has the common sense that a farmer has, he has strongly supported veterans - not just talked about it, actually done it - he has supported education, he has supported keeping Western Slope water on the Western Slope.
I will vote for John Salazar. John really knows our area, knows rural Colorado, and he would represent all of us.
