New FNBR office holds grand opening
First National Bank of the Rockies is holding a grand opening of its new Steamboat Springs office from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. The building is at 270 Anglers Drive, next to McDonald's.
FNBR entered the Steamboat market in 2004, operating out of a nearby temporary facility while the new office was being constructed. The $3.2 million building was designed by the architectural firm of Eric Smith & Associates; the general contractor was Amaron-Folkestead.
The grand opening event will include food, refreshments, music and drawings for prizes, including a widescreen TV. The bank will barbecue the steer it recently purchased at the Routt County Fair. The first 200 guests will receive $5 McDonald's gift cards, and for every new account opened, FNBR will donate $10 to United Way. During the event, guests are encouraged to register to win a widescreen TV or DVD player. The drawing will take place at 3 p.m. Oct. 7.
Funny money hits Steamboat Springs
Businesses beware - there is some funny money being passed in Steamboat Springs.
This week, more than $600 in counterfeit bills has been discovered and taken into evidence by the Steamboat Springs Police Department.
At least nine stores have encountered fake bills, including two liquor stores, a hardware store, a business that sells eyewear and a floral shop.
A fake $20 bill also showed up at a downtown bank.
Detectives are investigating the incidents.
Police encourage businesses to use the security features found on U.S. currency to determine whether bills are real or counterfeit.
Visit www.moneyfactory.gov for information on the currency security features such as watermarks and micro-printed type.
