Karen Goedert

Age: 40

Occupation: Human resource/recruiting consultant

Place of birth: El Paso, Texas

Q. When did you move to Routt County and what brought you here?

A. I moved here in 1994. I was working seasonally during the summer in Alaska and needed a seasonal winter gig to complement my summer months. Once I satisfied my Alaska dreams, I moved here on a year-round basis.

Q. Describe your morning routine.

A. Wake up grumpy to a beautiful blonde dog (McKinley) sitting at my bedside and a cup of coffee delivered to me by my husband. Eventually get out of bed and scramble to get to work at a reasonable time.

Q. Has a book ever changed your life? What was it and why?

A. "Many Lives, Many Masters.' It was the one tool that got me through a loved one's death by teaching me that if we are open to receiving contact from those who have passed, we can.

Q. What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

A. Wash your hands after using the restroom.

Q. What are the first three things you tell new acquaintances about yourself?

A. I'm married to a wonderful man, we are very fortunate to live in Steamboat Springs, and we share our house with McKinley - the prettiest dog in Steamboat.

Q. What did you want to be when you grew up?

A. Exactly what I have become.

Q. If you could invite any four people to dinner, who would they be and what would you talk about?

A. My dad, Bruce Cockburn, The Dalai Lama, and Thomas Jefferson. (McKinley would be underneath the table.) We would talk about each other's philosophies regarding human values such as compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, contentment and self-discipline, and how to continue to work towards happiness with minimal suffering.
