— Today's Thanksgiving holiday means many area businesses and government offices will be closed.

All city of Steamboat Springs offices will be closed today and Friday. These include the administrative offices at City Hall and Centennial Hall as well as the Parks, Open Space and Recreation Department. However, the city's continuous services, such as snow plowing, fire and emergency medical services, will still be in operation.

Steamboat Springs Transit will operate its free, daily bus routes as usual. The bus service began to operate under its winter schedule Wednesday. Call 879-3717 or visit www.steamboatsprings.net for route information.

Waste Management will not pick up trash today. Instead, the company will operate on a one-day delay through Saturday, and will resume its scheduled pickups on Monday.

U.S. Postal Service offices also will be closed today. However, express mail items will be delivered as usual, and area post office branches will resume their regular hours on Friday and Saturday - 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Lincoln Avenue location, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sundance at Fish Creek location, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at both locations.

Howelsen Ice Arena will be open from 9 to 11:45 a.m. today for public skating; all-level drop-in hockey is from noon to 1:30 p.m.; and family drop-in is from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. The arena also will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with various drop-in and public skate hours throughout the day. For times and pricing, call 879-0341 or visit www.howelsenicearena.com.

Although the ice arena will be open, the Parks and Rec Department's youth after-school programs are cancelled today and Friday, including today's Teen After-school Club meeting.

Most local banks, including Alpine Bank, Bank of the West, First National Bank of Steamboat Springs, Mountain Valley Bank, Vectra Bank Colorado and Wells Fargo, are closed today but will resume normal hours Friday and Saturday.

For those last-minute grocery needs, City Market is open today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Safeway is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, the pharmacies at both grocery stores will be closed. Operating hours will return to normal Friday.

The Wal-Mart pharmacy and Lyon's Corner Drug also are closed today and will re-open Friday.

Old Town Hot Springs is closed today and will open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.
