Backcountry Ball, silent auction is this Saturday
The eighth annual Backcountry Ball, sponsored by Friends of the Routt Backcountry, is from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Depot Art Center. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The dance and silent auction will benefit efforts to maintain quiet, non-motorized areas in the Routt National Forest. Call 879-8710.
Local knitters raising money for breast cancer
Local knitters are selling pink scarves to raise money for the Yampa Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Project. The scarves are available at Epilogue Book Co. in downtown Steamboat. All proceeds from scarf sales will go the Breast Cancer Awareness Project. Special order requests can be accommodated, and any local knitters or crocheters interested in making additional scarves are encouraged to call Jo at 846-2627.
Optimist Club accepting Teen of Month applications
The Steamboat Optimist Club is accepting applications from area high school seniors for its Teen of the Month award. All teens recognized as a Teen of the Month will be eligible for a $1,000 Teen of The Year award to be presented at the Teen of The Year dinner in May. Applications are available at all counselors' offices in Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek, or call club president Sid Hopkins at 870-8172 or Rob McCarthy at 871-7179 for more information.
LIFT-UP closed for move to new Lufkin center
LIFT-UP of Routt County's Donation Center will remain closed until the transition is made to the new Lufkin LIFT-UP Center on Curve Court. The transition is expected to be complete later this month. For more information, call 879-3374.
Community Thanksgiving dinner is 2 to 5 p.m.
A free Community Thanksgiving Dinner is from 2 to 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. All are welcome. The dinner is sponsored by Routt County United Way and Wells Fargo Bank. Food donations still are needed. For more information, call 879-5605.
Routt County fairgrounds available for horse riding
Don't let your horse get out of shape. The Routt County Fairgrounds multi-purpose building is open to the public for horseback riding. The cost is $5 an hour. Open riding sessions last through the winter with a varied schedule. Horses are not provided. The schedule is posted at www.routtcountyfair.org, or call 276-3068 for more information.
