Steamboat Springs City Council President Ken Brenner wants Routt County to help pay for a new community center in Steamboat.

But Commissioner Doug Monger said county commissioners are unlikely to agree with Brenner's suggestion.

Passengers at Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden can feel a little more at ease.

On Monday, workers at the airport unloaded crates containing three, $350,000 baggage screening machines that are part of an automated system for detecting explosives.

The airport is undergoing a 23,500-square-foot expansion.

YVRA will be the first airport in the United States where the machines are installed as part of a conveyor system.

In sports, Steamboat's Matt Ladley might have gotten the call in May, but the reality of being part of the 2006-07 U.S. snowboarding halfpipe team is just beginning to set in.

This weekend, he had his first on-snow team practice in Breckenridge. Ladley and is coaches are hopeful for a showing at the 2010 Olympics.

Also in sports, the details have been set for the Steamboat Sailors football playoff game. The Sailors will face Pueblo County in the second round of playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pueblo.
