Hockey tourney wraps up

— Three local youth hockey teams finished play in the 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Rumble on Sunday.

Two of the teams - the Squirt B and Pee Wee B - both lost in the championship game to tough team from Littleton and Provo, Utah.

The Steamboat Bantam B team lost in the third place game against Northern Colorado Youth Hockey, 3-1. Steamboat cut the Northern Colorado lead to 2-1 on a breakaway goal by Grant McCannon. Still down a goal late in the third period, Steamboat pulled its goalie and eventually gave up an empty net goal.

In the Squirt B game against Littleton, the two teams were tied for most of the game when Littleton scored the go-ahead goal with one minute 56 seconds left in the third period. Despite having several chances down the stretch, Steamboat couldn't tie the game and fell 4-3.

"It was exciting and stressful," Steamboat goalie Trent Trask said. "When we found out we were in the championship game it was amazing because we've never been in it before."

The Steamboat Pee Wee B team had to face the Provo Predators in the championship game. Coming into the finale, the Provo team hadn't lost a game in pool play.

Despite having only nine players, the Provo team won 5-0.
