Steamboat Springs The 2006 Steamboat City Mixed Doubles Championship wrapped up play Sunday at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs.
The tournament used the NTRP (skill-leveled) format where partners can be of different skill sets within the combined entry level.
On Sunday, six teams were crowned champions.
In the mixed 6.0 Doubles, Anya Cooper and Max Roder took the crown. In the Mixed 7.0 Doubles Jeannie and Santino Antonucci were crowned champions. Shelby Reed and Ralph Tobelmann took the 7.5 Mixed 7.5 Doubles while Kristin and Joel Toy took the 8.0 Doubles.
In two of the more intriguing matches of the day, Dave and Patrice Lorenzen downed Jesse Schaller and Molly Weiss in three sets, 5-7, 6-3,6-1 to take the 8.5 Doubles crown.
Then, in 9.0 Doubles, Fabiola Katthain and David Schaller wrapped up the title by beating Andrew Hoing and Breanne Murray 7-6, 6-2.
Tournament Director Jim Swiggart said he was pleased with the turnout and the level of the play throughout the three-day event.
"The level of play was as good as we've had," Swiggart said. "The tournament went smooth with great competition and great sportsmanship."
The next tournament at the Tennis Center will be the Steamboat Tennis Association Turkey Shootout. It starts at 3 p.m. on Nov. 19.
Then on Dec. 8, 9 and 10, the Tennis Center will hold the City Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships. For more information or to sign up for either tournament visit the Tennis Center and pick up a pamphlet.
