Steamboat native named teacher of year

Steamboat springs

Scott DeVries was named Rotary Teacher of the Year in the Poudre School District.

DeVries is a native of Steamboat Springs and a 1976 Steamboat Springs High School graduate. He is a history teacher at Preston Junior High School.

The three Rotary clubs in Fort Collins honored one teacher from the Poudre School District for the 12th year, selecting DeVries.

He has taught in the Poudre School District for 23 years and was nominated for the award by Preston Principal Rick Ramirez.

DeVries beat out 26 other teachers to be named Rotary Teacher of the Year.

He received the Colorado History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and Preserve America earlier this year.

PEAKS holds meeting with featured speakers

PEAKS, a support group for parents and teachers of high ability kids, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at Steamboat Springs High School. Julia Watson Barnett with the Colorado Department of Education and Anne Dunlevie affiliated with the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented will be the featured speakers.

Informance 2006 to be held at Strawberry Park

The music program "Informance 2006" will feature Strawberry Park first- and second-graders and the lower Montessori students. The performance is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Strawberry Park. Dress rehearsal is at 2:30 p.m.
