Notes from youth hockey


Squirt B

Steamboat's Squirt B Skaters hosted The Summit Lightning on Saturday morning. Steamboat was able to hold off the Lightning and post a 3-1 victory in its first game of the season. Devon Schildge opened the scoring on a rebound from a Jackson Perry shot in the first period. Perry also netted another assist on the eventual game-winning goal off the stick of Patrick Milne. Perry also scored an insurance goal late in the second period for his third point of the game. Trent Trask turned away 12 of the 13 shots he faced in goal. The Squirt B team will play at home this weekend in the Rocky Mountain Rumble.

Peewee B

The Peewee B team hosted Pueblo on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of league games. The Peewee B team handily defeated the Panthers, 7-3 and 8-2.

The first tilt saw A.J. Strickland (two goals), Alex Elliott (one goal, one assist), Preston Davie (one goal), Dillon Chapman (one goal), Ben Wharton (one goal), Sam Samlowski (one goal), Peter White (two assists), and Will Burrow (one assist) tally the points for Steamboat. Drew Boatwright and Ellana Williams combined in goal to keep Pueblo at bay. Strickland netted a hat trick Sunday to go with one assist. Wharton also netted multiple goals, and Burrow tallied three points with a goal and two assists.

Mason Bates and Ben Magnuson rounded out the scoring for Steamboat with a goal apiece, and Joe Dobell, Penn Lukens and Kyle Cordell had one assist each. Logan Banning anchored the goal making 14 stops on 16 shots.

Peewee A

The Peewee A squad also hosted Pueblo for a pair of CDYHL games this weekend. A 3-1 loss Saturday was highlighted by a Jake Miller goal from his own blue line. Jack Lupori was kept busy in goal facing 22 shots and turning away 19.

Sunday's contest saw a back-and-forth battle, with Pueblo finally coming out on top for a one-goal victory.

The Squirt B and Peewee B team will join the Bantam B team this weekend at Howelsen Ice Arena to host the Rocky Mountain Rumble. Teams from Denver, Fort Collins and even as far as Provo, Utah, will be in town to try to capture the title.
