Routt County leans Democratic

Steamboat Springs Early voters in Routt County cast strongly Democratic ballots.
According to the 2,486 early ballots counted Tuesday night, representing just over 16 percent of registered voters in Routt County, Democratic candidates have an early lead in Routt County in nearly all statewide and regional races.
Democratic U.S. Rep. John Salazar of Manassa has a nearly 40 percent lead over Republican challenger Scott Tipton, a Cortez businessman. Salazar garnered 1,684 votes, or 69 percent, compared to 732 votes and 30 percent for Tipton. Hotchkiss Libertarian Bert Sargent received 39 votes in Routt County, just under 2 percent of the early votes cast.
In the governor's race, Routt County early voters gave Democratic candidates Bill Ritter and Barbara O'Brien 1,658 votes, or 68 percent, compared to 748 votes and 30 percent for Republicans Bob Beauprez and Janet Rowland.
Democratic Secretary of State candidate Ken Gordon received 1,411 early votes compared to 979 votes for Republican Mike Coffman.
Democratic State Treasurer candidate Cary Kennedy received 1,405 early votes compared to 958 votes for Republican Mark Hillman.
In the race for Attorney General, Democrat Fern O'Brien has a slim lead over Republican incumbent John Suthers, with 1,147 early votes compared to Suthers' 1,120.
Republican state Rep. Al White of Winter Park is the only regional or statewide Republican to take an early lead in Routt County, with 1,227 votes in the race for the District 57 state House of Representatives seat, compared to 1,109 votes for Democrat Andy Gold of Tabernash.
