Marathon needs volunteers

— The success of the Steamboat Springs Marathon, Half Mara--thon and 10K is attributed to one group -- the volunteers.

"You should see the letters we get," said Jody Anagnos, special events director for the Steam--boat Springs Chamber Res--ort Association. "We have the best volunteers."

Hundreds of volunteers are needed each year, and Anagnos is looking for anyone willing to help this spring.

The Steamboat Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K are June 4.

"We need volunteers for aid stations, set up, registration. ... We need everything," Anagnos said.

The Steamboat Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K bring more than 1,000 runners together annually, and this year, the event is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Registration for the marathon and 10K is still open, but the half marathon is sold out.

Registration for the marathon is $70, and the 10K costs $30.

Aid station sponsors are still needed. For $125, a business can sponsor an aid station along the course, but the businesses don't need to staff the station.

That's where the volunteers come in, Anagnos said.

Volunteers will be given a T-shirt and lunch for their help.

Anyone interested in volunteering can call the Chamber at 879-0882, ext. 208, or stop by the offices at 1255 S. Lincoln Ave.
