Soroco's Kieran Corrigan won the 800 and 1,600 meters as the boys finished third at Saturday's Western Slope League meet.
With West Grand firmly planted as the top team, Rams coach Gary Heide wasn't chasing points as much as he could have.
"They did awesome," he said. "They scored 91 points and almost got second. Again, I had some people step up who were just amazing. What a great day."
The Rams' 3,200-meter relay team of Johnny DeCosta, Jesus Garcia, Kyle Hendrickson and Corrigan broke the school record, winning the event in 8 minutes, 38.10 seconds.
The 1,600-meter relay team of DeCosta, Steve Meade, Hendrickson and Corrigan set a meet record, finishing in 3:40.04.
Nick Rangel finished second in the discus and shot put, and he helped anchor the 400-meter relay to a runner-up finish in 47.03. His teammates are Hendrickson, Meade and Lucas Sullivan.
"That's impressive with all the teams there with speed," Heide said. "That was a strong showing."
Hendrickson (fourth) and Meade (sixth) also set personal records in the open 400, as the Rams make a serious push for a high podium finish at the state meet in the event.
Up next for Soroco is the two-day Region 5 meet at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction. The meet begins Friday morning and runs through Saturday night.
