Sound Off for May 7

Illegal immigration

No, I do not support a guest-worker program to help illegal immigration. There should be no illegal immigrants. Illegal means they do not have any rights of any kind in this country and should return to their own country. Illegal is illegal whether one is an immigrant or a citizen.

Although the immigration problem is out of hand, the place to start is not with guest-worker programs or blanket amnesty. Fine the employer and send the employee back to his or her place of origin. The illegal immigrants do not pay taxes, and I am not talking about taxes on food, gas, etc. I am talking state and federal income taxes that, in turn, support the schools, hospitals, other public services, highways, etc. People who come to the U.S. and do not learn English hurt America in so many ways. If you come to America, do it legally, learn English, abide by the laws passed by Americans and have vehicle insurance as required by law -- and America will welcome you with open arms.

I'm sick and tired of having the Pilot supporting these illegal criminals that are invading our country. They're disrupting the economy, and they're screwing honest workers out of their jobs and out of their futures.

I am extremely against any program that would help out illegal immigrants. The money they earn and send back to Mexico doesn't help America or Routt County. They get benefits here that should be available to my children and other people in need. They do not help our communities.

Questions too vague

I'd like to think I'm up on current events, but some of your questions are like, 'Am I not in touch with what's going on?' Do I support a guest-worker program? I've never heard of it. I think you need to look at your questions. They're so vague.

Cyclists beware

For all people who like to bicycle out Twentymile Road --here's a proposal to put 90 mobile homes out on some property right next to the Southside Schoolhouse and above the city sewage plant. If you think the traffic is bad on Twentymile now, imagine adding between 85 and 170 cars on a daily basis.

Haymaker delay

Can you believe it? It would seem from the looks of things that Haymaker Golf Course is ready for play, but the clubhouse contractor is behind schedule, so the course remains closed. Don't you think that for all the money we are paying for that clubhouse, a bit of planning could have been done to assure that at least a temporary trailer was ready to service golfers after the turf was set to go? Sounds like the tennis center fiasco all over again. When do we start talking about rebates on season passes? You would think someone would get a clue.
