Josephine Arlene Selbe

Former Steamboat Springs resident Josephine Arlene Selbe passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2006, in Mesa, Ariz. She was 94.

Arlene was born March 22, 1912, to Frank A. Dixson and Josephine Robinson Dixson in Phillipsburg, Kan.

She married Maurice E. Selbe on May 22, 1932, and the couple moved to Steamboat Springs in spring 1939.

Arlene was an active partner with her husband in the day-to-day operation of their ranch and dairy until their retirement in 1980. She taught school in Routt County, was a 4-H leader, a champion quilter and won many blue ribbons for her angel food cakes. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Steamboat, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 65 years.

Arlene also was a beloved member of the Presbyterian Church of the Master in Mesa, Ariz.

Her kind and gentle spirit is a legacy of her Christian faith.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Frank and his wife, Maureen, of Mesa, Ariz., and Raymond and his wife, Karen, of Steamboat Springs; sister-in-law Anne Selbe of Steamboat Springs; five granddaughters, Joy Daniell, Julie Highland, Cindar Selbe, Laurel Selbe, and Kate Jackson; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is May 22, 2006, in Steamboat Springs.
