Sailors defeat Huskies


The Steamboat Springs Sailors got their first wins of the baseball season Saturday in a sweep of Battle Mountain.

The Sailors whipped the Huskies, 13-1 and 29-3.

"We got off to a pretty rough start last weekend in Denver," Coach Dave Roy said. "It was great to see these kids come back this weekend. They just did a great job."

Jack Serhant pitched a two-hitter in the first game and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and 4 RBI.

Elliot Girard also had three hits for the Sailors, including a double and a triple.

John Dunham and Alex Wood homered in the second game for the Sailors, who jumped to an 11-1 lead after two innings. The Sailors finished with 22 hits.

Zack Savage picked up the win for the Sailors. Savage allowed only two hits.

The wins moved Steamboat to 2-3-1. The Sailors travel to Meeker Thursday.
