Hubba-hubba
I did not boo the villain or cheer the heroine at the melodrama Thursday night at Steamboat Mountain Theater -- I was laughing too hard. The Secret of Yonder Mountain is to have a chicarita first. No, but you could win free candy during intermission if you forget to eat dinner.
The show is a great date idea, and you even can take the whole family along to chaperone. The characters in the show are comically entertaining, and the local talent can pull off the over-the-top acting that makes this show the gold rush you were looking for.
Glory days
I go to the Steamboat Springs High School Dance Showcase every year, maybe because it reminds me of my "glory days" of being on my high school dance team.
It involved grueling 6 a.m. practices, sassy girls and feeling the freedom of music coursing through every inch of your body. Dancing was the safest outlet for my teen angst and is a beautiful form of discipline and expression.
I was impressed with the level of creativity executed in this year's Dance Showcase, and I was delighted to see so many side ponytails. The students put on a well-choreographed show with moves I've never seen.
New and Xciting
After running into the Fryday Band at The Freddy Jones Band show, I headed over to my first art show opening at Studio Gallery 27. I was impressed. The contemporary work of my Generation X was a refreshing change from the country Western motif I have become accustomed to.
I found myself later in the day seriously contemplating charging an expensive piece of art to my credit card. It was one of those pieces that stay with you, like the feeling after a really good movie. I might have to go back for the double feature.
Breakfast secret
My favorite thing about the weekend is going out to breakfast with my friends. We always enter frantically starving and always leave heavy with food coma, ready to take a nap on the couch.
I'm so excited to have found a new breakfast place -- Wired. I can't believe that I had never been there before. We got in without a wait, were not tempted by any delectable cinnamon rolls, were presented with a refreshing menu, and the decor made us feel like we were transported to Boulder.
