Youth hockey leagues reach end of season


Squirt B

Steamboat's Squirt B hockey team wrapped up its season with two games against Vail and one against Summit County during the weekend.

Steamboat captured a pair of 8-3 wins against Vail and a 6-4 victory against Summit.

Jack Perry paced the scoring with a five-goal, six-assist weekend. Christian Ramirez, Patrick Milne, Ben Wharton, Tyler Scott, Quinn Cain, Andrew Firestone and Dillon Chapman scored for Steamboat. Connor Glynn, Jesse Draper and Logan Banning stopped a combined 30 shots.

Bantam A

Steamboat's Bantam A team handed Vail a 7-4 loss behind five third-period goals. Christopher Finch led the charge with four goals. Cody Fritz tallied a multiple-point game with two goals and one assist. Jon Winkleblech rounded out the scoring, and Kevin Stokes, Kerry Timmerman and Sam Andrew added assists. Sean Kussinen and Matt Dawes combined to stop 10 Vail shots. The team travels to Windsor to participate in the Continental Divide Youth Hockey League playoffs March 10 to 12.

Bantam B

Steamboat's Bantam B squad was not able to continue the run for Steamboat, settling for a 0-0 tie with Vail. Erik Owen played strong in goal for Steamboat, stopping a breakaway opportunity and a penalty shot to preserve the tie. The team qualified for the CDYHL playoffs.

Peewee A

The Peewee A squad hosted the Colorado Junior Eagles for two games, skating to 4-3 and 5-2 victories. Jake Bearss, John Burrow, Thomas Cyrnak and Lance Ostrom scored in the first game. Grant McCannon, Jake Miller and Jonathan Milne were given assists. In the second game, Bearss' hat trick paced Steamboat. Burrow and Ostrom netted the other goals. Cyrnak, Milne and McCannon chipped in with assists. Jack Lupori and Joey Haight split both games, combining for 26 saves in net.

Peewee B

The Peewee B team traveled to Aspen and Glenwood Springs during the weekend. Aspen and Steamboat tied 2-2. Charlie VonThaden and Erikk Hill netted the Steamboat goals. A 6-0 shutout victory by Steamboat goalie Cassidy Sanders followed. A.J. Strickland and Sam Samlowski scored two goals each. Ben Bradfield, Bubba Ivers, Hanah Samlowski and John Wharton supplied assists. The Peewee B team will wrap up its season March 16 to 18 at the Spring Fling Tournament in Denver.
