Former Steamboat Springs resident Emily "Mex" Evans Briley died tragically March 4, 2006, in an accident at her home in Park City, Utah. She was 31.

Emily was born Jan. 6, 1975, in Steamboat Springs. She grew up in Colorado and graduated from Park City High School in 1993, where she was an accomplished member of the volleyball team. She went on to play for St. Mary's College in Omaha, Neb.

She was awarded her bachelor's of science degree in exercise and sport science from the University of Utah. Emily coached the girls' volleyball team at Park City High School for many years, an activity she loved dearly. She was a leader and role model for the many fortunate young women she mentored.

The Park Meadows Country Club hired her in 2001 as a server but soon recognized her talents and leadership skills, and she was promoted to dining room manager. She eventually became the food and beverage director.

Emily continued to be the special events coordinator as she seamlessly entered the world of motherhood with great enthusiasm.

She also enjoyed her work as a host at Deer Valley since 2001, where she met her husband, Timothy Briley, who worked for the ski patrol. This match was undeniably perfect to all who knew them, and they married in Park City on Aug. 30, 2003, in the presence of many friends and family. Her greatest and most cherished job was becoming a mother to Griffin Adrian Briley, who was born Nov. 10, 2005. They blessed this world with him.

She touched so many people with her unrestrained spirit and love of life. She lived with no reservations or regrets. Although her life was short, it was complete with her adoring husband, cherished son and beautiful home.

She is preceded in death by her grandfather Leroy Evans; and her beloved cousin Adrian Mason Upham.

Emily is survived by her husband, Timothy; a son, Griffin Adrian Briley of Kamas, Utah; her parents, Walt and Pam Evans of Kamas, Utah; sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Karl Goerke and their daughters Gabriella and Isabella of Dixon, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Lt. Cmdr. Todd and Amanda Evans and their son William of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandparents Frederick and Jean Upham of Fort Collins and Mary Lee Evans of Dayton, Wyo.

Funeral services were at St. Mary's Catholic Church on March 9, 2006, in Park City. Visitation was at St. Mary's Catholic Church on March 8 and 9, 2006.
