Steamboat Springs During its meeting Thursday night, the Oak Creek Town Board was complimented for the town's response to the December rupture of a mainline water pipe.
Routt County Director of Emergency Management Chuck Vale addressed the handling of the disaster. Oak Creek Town Clerk Karen Halterman said Vale's review of the town's response to losing nearly 90 percent of its water supply was informative and positive.
"He complimented the town on how well we all bonded and worked together," she said.
Halterman also said Vale offered suggestions for preparing for future disasters, such as having a written plan or disaster declaration to outline the roles each town agency should fill during emergencies.
Vale also mentioned Hurr--icane Katrina as an example for Town Board members to consider as they plan for future disasters, Halterman said.
In other Town Board business, Jerry Greenwood, chairman of the Oak Creek Planning Commission, resigned, citing a schedule conflict with his work obligations.
Oak Creek Mayor Kathy "Cargo" Rodeman said the Planning Commission will look to fill the position soon and will appoint alternate Planning Commission board members.
