Missing pit coverage
LaFarge v. the Routt County Board of Commissioners District Court hearing regarding the conditions that were placed on their special permit for a gravel pit complex on the More Ranch was Tuesday afternoon. I'm just curious why such an important issue to the community was not reported by the newspaper this week?
Editor's Note: We have no excuses -- we missed it. The hearing should have been covered and will be reported this week.
Stupid story
Please. Your article about first and second homes aren't enough (Page 1B of the Feb. 26 Pilot & Today) -- is that the best filler you can find for the newspaper? Especially in this town where we really do not have any affordable housing. Think of the United States, where a good number of people do not have affordable housing; think of people in Louisiana and Mississippi who have nothing. Then you run that sort of junk in the newspaper. Find some better filler or just run a picture of a skier or an elk or something.
Editorial balance
I think the editorial balance at the Pilot & Today is about right. I'm basically a conservative who mostly votes Republican in national elections, but I really enjoy Thomas Friedman and his points of view, which I seem to generally agree with more often than not. Maureen Dowd is "merciless" and is often "outrageous," but she is an excellent writer who has a unique ability to make even her most outrageous points in an often humorous way. Therefore I enjoy reading her stuff, too. I think liberals should be equally happy with David Brooks and Kathleen Parker.
Mesa's woes
Recently, I flew on Mesa Airlines from Denver to Hayden. The flight was delayed for 2.5 hours. During this time the gate attendant called several times asking if anyone knew where the "Hayden Crew" was.ventually, he announced that "His Royal Highness" had arrived, referring to the pilot. Is this professional service? don't think so.
Defending Mesa
On the question of the week, I think it's bad business to let somebody go because they're not doing a good job. We should point out their flaws, work with them and try to get them to improve their performance. It will probably be pretty hard to get somebody to come into Yampa Valley Regional Airport; that's probably not a very good cash flow for an airline. They should work with Mesa Airlines, not replace them.
Defending Lodwick
Please give Todd Lodwick credit for what he has done foris sport and Steamboat Springs over the last four Olympics and a lifetime of achievement, hard work, perseverance and dedication ithout throwing a bucket of cold water on it by espousing our opinion of a few comments he made in the twilight of his career. They do not deserve equal print as you gave them, let alone in the same article. Give the man his due without qualifications. He is an example of what is best about Steamboat Springs.
Say no to Walgreens
I agree wholeheartedlyith comments that we do not need a store like Walgreens in a town like ours. We have everything here locally available to us without a big box taking away from the local businesses. Please stop this type of thinking.
