Youth hockey teams enjoy success


— Steamboat Springs' Bantam A squad hosted the Mountain States Renegades for two games during the weekend. Steamboat gave up an early lead in the first game but responded with two third-period goals to end in a 2-2 tie.

Kerry Timmerman and John Winkelblech netted the Steam----boat goals. Winkleblech and Cody Fritz assisted on Timmerman's tally, and Eric Bonner assisted on the tying goal. Sean Kussinen blocked 12 of the 14 shots he faced in goal.

Steamboat posted a 6-2 victory in the second game. Winkleblech scored two goals, and Timmerman had two assists. Ian Anderson also had a goal and an assist. Bonner, Ryne Sternberg and Gus Worden also found the back of the net. Christopher Finch tallied an assist to finish the scoring.

Matt Dawes made eight saves, and Steamboat outshot the Renegades, 38-9. The Bantam team travels to the state playoffs March 11 and 12.

Squirt B

Steamboat's Squirt B team dropped a 4-2 game to Pueblo. Jesse Draper and Connor Glynn combined for 13 saves on 17 shots. Steamboat managed 27 shots on goal, but only Quinn Cain and Patrick Milne scored. Erik Sobeck and Tyler Scott were credited with the assists. The Squirt B team ends its season this weekend with two games against Vail on Saturday and their final game against Summit on Sunday.

PeeWee B

The Peewee B team won against Denver Country Club on Sunday. The 6-3 victory was paced by Charlie VonThaden's five-point effort. Steamboat also got goals from Hannah Samlowski, John Wharton and Errik Hill. Goaltender Connor Brown managed 19 saves on 22 shots. The team is gearing up for a playoff run March 11 and 12 in Denver.
