Art opportunities for June 30

Opportunities
¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2007. To commemorate what is sometimes referred to as the Emerald Anniversary, SSAC is seeking artwork to be considered for a poster that will be the artistic design and branding for the anniversary. The artwork should relate to "emerald" in some way, as in the color emerald or the mountain that looms above the Depot Art Center. Entries are due Sep. 1, 2006. Download the entry guidelines at www.steamboatspringsarts.com, or e-mail beth@steamboatspringsarts.com. Contest guidelines are available at the Depot, 1001 13th St.

¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council Visual Arts Committee is accepting proposals for two individual or small group shows at the Eleanor Bliss Center for the Arts at the Depot and several opportunities in the Small Works Gallery in 2007. Individual artists or small curated groups are eligible to submit their work for consideration. Submissions from all levels of artists are welcome. All mediums are eligible, and all ideas will be considered. The Depot welcomes new work, retrospective shows and educational shows. Information and guidelines for these exhibits are available at The Depot, online at www.steamboatspringsarts.com or by e-mailing beth@steamboatspringsarts.com. The entry deadline is Oct. 1.

¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking members to serve on its Visual Arts Committee. The VAC is an advisory committee of artists, educators and business members who have a passion for visual arts. They help plan and execute gallery exhibits and visual arts programs for SSAC. They would like to build a multi-generational committee to best represent the needs of the community. For more information or to get an application, e-mail beth@steamboatspringsarts.com or call 879-9008, ext. 106.

¤ The Steamboat Springs Arts Council is seeking volunteers for its Docent Program. SSAC docents are trained volunteers who staff the Depot galleries, help interpret and explain our exhibits and encourage visitor interaction with the artwork, furthering the mission of the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. They help with unpacking exhibit items, hanging shows and hosting opening receptions. Docents also coordinate the annual Studio Tour and facilitate the "Art for Seniors" program at the Doak Walker Care Center. They are available to lead guided tours of the exhibits to schools and groups if requested. Docents meet monthly for seminars as well as occasional field trips. Docents continue their arts education by attending the monthly art seminars and gallery talks by presenting artists and exhibition judges and participating in docent-sponsored field trips. Docents are also encouraged to attend art education events and classes at CMC or presented to the community. For more information, e-mail beth@steamboatspringsarts.com or call 879-9008, ext. 106.
