Bryce S. Geigle: Not what you think

I am a Rainbow Family member not yet in Colorado. I have been attending Rainbow Gatherings since 1975, after I got out of the Army. I just wanted to comment on the folks that are supposedly paying for groceries with electronic cards.

At the Gathering, the Rainbow Family passes around what we call the "Magic Hat," taking donations from participants to pay for the food that is purchased with money, not credit cards, food stamp cards or any other plastic media. We are self-supporting. Also, at the gathering you will find 100-plus kitchens feeding the masses. No one goes hungry.

The majority of the Rainbow Family are working folks, not panhandlers and folks on welfare. We are lawyers, doctors, factory workers, social workers, blue- and white-collar workers, organic farmers and those who are self-sufficient on land they bought, to mention a few. I am a retired meat cutter.

I just wanted to set some things straight. I will be at the gathering in the next week and will be attending some town meetings to help clear up some other points of concern.
