Electric association updates its members
Thursday, June 8, 2006
Steamboat Springs Lawrence Covillo, president and general manager of the Yampa Valley Electric Association, said the company's annual meeting is the best way for members to get an update on what the company is doing.
"I will report on last year's financials, on significant items that happened last year and on things we see in our future, and how we will try to solve the problems before they get to us," Covillo said.
YVEA's annual meeting is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hayden High School.
During the meeting, members will have the opportunity to vote on one director seat. Incumbent Irlan Neas is seeking re-election to the board. He is being challenged by Scott McGill.
Members also will decide on three basic changes to the association's bylaws.
"The first is to change the method of voting by mail," Covillo said. "We had problems with the post office sending ballots back to people, and there was a concern for people's identification being on the outside of the envelope."
Other bylaw changes include only issuing membership certificates on request and allowing board members to change the bylaws without a vote from the membership, with the exception of critical items such as the sale of the co-op. It will still require a membership vote to change any article the membership proposes.
Members who are present at the meeting will receive a lunch donated by the Hayden Chamber of Commerce and attendance is highly encouraged.
"We wish to hear your input on issues that affect you as members," Covillo said.
