Author study to discuss 'A Prayer for the Dying'
Bud Werner Memorial Library's Literary Sojourn Author Study will meet June 20 to discuss Stewart O'Nan's "A Prayer for the Dying." The Author Study is designed to enhance the experience of reading works that will be presented during this summer's Literary Sojourn. The Author Study, a book discussion group, meets once a month and is facilitated by library circulation services manager Michelle Dover. Rocky Mountain Youth Corps looks for volunteers
Rocky Mountain Youth Corps is looking for community members to volunteer for its field-based workshops this summer. Workshop topics are related to life skills such as career development, leadership and healthy lifestyles. For more information, call 879-2135, ext. 4.
Free Keeping History Alive teacher workshop
A free workshop for local teachers is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 20 at the Carpenter Ranch near Hayden. The workshop is called "Keeping Cultural and Natural History Alive in the Yampa Valley" and will emphasize having teachers bring their classes to the ranch for place-based educational field trips. 4-H children's hospital fundraiser is June 17
The 10th annual St. Judes Children's Hospital Pledge Trail Ride, a fundraiser of the Steamboat 4-H Club, is at 9 a.m. June 17. The trial ride is the club's annual community service project to raise money for cancer research at St. Judes Children's Hospital. Meet at the Red Dirt Trailhead on Routt County Road 129. Take horses and pledges. Lunch will be provided, and swimming at the Strawberry Park Hot Springs will be $3. Call Missy at 879-2968 or Patsy at 879-0954 for information and pledge forms.
Annual Courage Classic to be held from July 22-24
Cyclists in Steamboat Springs and across Colorado are gearing up for the 17th annual Courage Classic, a benefit for The Children's Hospital. The event is from July 22 to 24. Last year's Courage Classic raised more than $1.6illion for the hospital. Race events include the traditional three-day, 157-mile bike ride; the Century Option, during which advanced cyclists head up Ute Pass to tackle an additional 100 miles; and the Taste of Courage, a one-day ride for cyclists of all ages.
