School Board special study session at 4 p.m. today

The Steamboat Springs School Board has a light agenda for its special study session at 4 p.m. today at the George P. Sauer Human Services Center.

The board will receive a Soda Creek Elementary and Strawberry Park Elementary facilities update, which is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Public comments and staff comments are the first item on the agenda for a rare summer meeting of the board.

The first day of school in the Steamboat Springs School District is Aug. 28.

Democrats showcase and picnic at 1 p.m. Aug. 12

All voters and their families are invited to a Democratic Candidates Picnic at 1 p.m. Aug. 12 on the lawn between Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Steamboat Springs Community Center. There will be free watermelon, drinks, popcorn, and cookies. Take your own lunch and blanket. Candidates Diane Mitsch Bush, Mike Kerrigan, Gary Wall, Andy Gold and Steve Ludwig will speak and answer questions. Steamboat Springs High School graduate Gaspar Perricone will represent gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter. There also will be representatives from the John Salazar and Ken Gordon campaigns.

There will be games and prizes for children as well as sack races with the candidates. The first 100 people to walk, skate, bike, car pool or bus to the event will receive coupons for free ice cream cones. Call 870-2896 or 870-6673 for more information.

Volunteers needed for 'Letters for Mozart' show

Emerald City Opera is seeking volunteers to help Aug. 4 and Aug. 6 with this year's production of "Letters for Mozart." Ushers, box office and concessions volunteers are needed. Volunteers get to see the show for free. Call 879-1996.
